Sure those fancy wood ones are purty but this is functional, adjustable and damn near free. Works for me.
And here's my loverly yarn soaking to set the twist.
I could have steamed or washed it right on the niddy noddy but it just looks so cool in the bowl...like freaky-colored spaghetti.
Uh, I probably should have steam set it right on the niddy noddy because I didn't squish out the excess water very well and now I have a soaking wet yarn hammock dripping right into the middle of my black hole of doom desk.
I should probably go squish it again. I moved a pile of dishcloths under the drip instead.
And here's where I admit I cheated a little with the pictures. This was actually the first skein I made from my big balls.

I'd already spun the singles, plied them, wound onto the niddy noddy, tied, removed (because Em needed to use the niddy noddy), soaked, rinsed, dried and folded it into this not-so-neat little skein (tell me again why I'm making yarn instead of buying some of Wooly Wormhead's exquisite homespun) before smacking myself in the head for not taking any pictures. DOH!
Now go see Em's yarn (you really want to click on the last pic in her post to make it bigger, really) because it's so freaking gorgeous. I'm jealous.

I usually get a bath towel and use that as the weight when I hang my skeins to dry. Then, so they don't get odd lines in them, I rotate them around (helps with the wet spot, too). I've found I don't need more weight than that.
Pretty yarn, though. Very, very nice. It would make gorgeous anything. :)
