I started these (what the hell are they? hang on, I'm getting to it) at our monthly Zombie Prom Date Knitters Theo and Stacy’s Meet Up of Drink and Flaming Cheese (scroll down, passed the potty and pigs), just a couple days before our highway pick up. Eh, a couple of feet of simple stripy knitting, how long could it take?
Well, it was supposed to be simple stripes. But I was bored and it was soul sucking Red Heart. I needed a reason to live…er…continue knitting. So I threw in some color work (no, my floats weren’t as tight as it looks, it was just stockinette rolling and fine for the intended purpose) and a bit of lace on the first one. Then some garterlac and vertical striping on the second.
I was going to roughly weave in all those ends but it was Friday night and we had a 9AM meet up for the work day. I threw them, along with darning needle and scissors, at Em on the way to the rest area Sat. morning. She sewed in the beginnings and ends and called them done.
My son Graham (we forced him to join us, and promised not to bedazzle his vest though I almost talked him into the words HELP ME!), being the tallest of our tiny crew, helped tag the first sign.
The MDOT road crew guys stopped by in their very full (of our trash, we picked up 100 bags in two days of work) truck. Big guy #1 asked who was the knitter. We all are! But who is the best knitter? The one who did the beeyooteefull knitting on the sign? “No one, if we’re in trouble!” says Holly. As Alice vigorously points to me. Busted!
Road crew dudes said we're the best looking Adopt a Highway crew out there.
note: I've switched to Google Chrome and my fonts are all over the place here at the blog, I hope it doesn't look as bad from the outside looking in.
