So. I was intrigued with an SM crafter's mention of "holding the line meter in on ehand while somethingsomethingsomething." Line meter? What's this line meter?
Then I remembered poking around Etsy and seeing a yarn measuring thing that utilized a fishing line meter. As I recall, it was impressively spendy. Not that it's not worth it for the work that went into it. Just that's money I could be spending on fiber!
Still, I could see how something like this would be useful. I didn't think it'd be all that difficult to put together. I bought a fishing line meter at Gander Mountain ($11), some oak dowels and a board at the hardware/lumber store (about $10-12).
I also had the idea of combining functions (for some reason, Peter keeps trying to throw out my original lazy kate), why not add a lazy kate to hold my improvised PVC bobbins?
Here's my yarn meter/lazy kate in the middle of plying some llama/wool/alpaca I spun this morning.
and a better pic of my finished spindle
because I love it too
