another FO

Remember the Forest Canopy shawl I started with my handspun months ago? It's been my in-between-other-projects project. I finally decided it needed to become a finished object...

The wingspan is about 73" and it's 35" down the center.

This was my first lace other than socks (how is it that I've been knitting for nearly 35 years and just now knit lace?), first finished shawl (Lady Eleanor will be making her final appearance here soon) and my first project with my first spindle spun yarn. That's a lot of firsts!

I'm really pleased with how this turned out and can't wait to try the designer's newest shawl--Spring Things.

Speaking of shawls, I'm suddenly seeing them everywhere. Wendy's rendition of the Alpine Knit Scarf from Victorian Lace Today (Em says our library has it!). Eunny Jang's Print O'the Wave. Stephanie/Harlot's Snowdrop.

I feel a new obsession coming on. I am sooo not a shawl/lace person. But I've decided shawls are a perfect marriage with handspun yarn. I don't have to worry too much about gauge, I can spin the yarn as I need it, it doesn't have to be perfect as long as it's fairly consistant and it's not difficult to adjust the pattern to the yarn.

Now, how the hell do I store shawls? Fold them and drap over a padded hanger in the closet? Folded in a drawer? Draped over the headboard of my bed?

More importantly, how the hell do I wear a shawl?

Well done, it looks great over the head of your bed and the fact that you spun the yarn? That's just impressive.
