A little holiday spirit

It's been hard getting "in the mood" this year. Peter finally dragged me out to get a tree on Sunday. It's a little Charlie Brownish but there's not a whole lot of choice a week before Christmas. The kids decorated it on Tuesday.

Kai and Abi's school holiday program was yesterday. They were very excited about it and adamant that I HAD to be there. Kait and I went but I didn't get very good pictures. All five grades performed in succession so it was standing room only and we were in the very back. Here they are before school.

There is actually some knitting and even finishing (who'd a thunk?!) going on. I finally got around to frogging and reknitting the cashmere Besotted meant for Peter's gift last year. Better late than never. It's busy blocking in my bedroom where the light is crappy. It's really hard to show the cable pattern in a pic, much less with bad lighting.

Em decided to make her Orchestra secret santa partner a scarf. She chose the center cable pattern (fire and ice from Vogue's Knitting Stitchionary 2) and designed the scarf around it. One skein of Patton's Classic Merino and a couple of days later...

These interlocking foam pads are what's under the towels the scarves are drying on. I got them for $20 at Sams Club and they're perfect for blocking. I can just pop them together to make a surface as big as I need. Coolness.

My mom sent me an entire box of truly fugly yarn. I have no idea why. Or what I'm going to do with it. Make her a throw?

Em and I made it to Knit Night at Barnes and Noble last night. We met some really nice ladies who invited us to join their knitting guild. They were very impressed with Em's current project--four socks at once on two circs, using double knitting with one pair inside the other. They suggested she might present the techniques at a future guild meeting.

Harrumph. I was working on a design-as-I-go scarf in stupid WoolEase for my son's girlfriend. The four socks at once thing was MY idea...Em just got around to trying it first because she ran out of yarn for the mitered square blanket she's making for her brother.

We're just a teeny bit competitive. It's friendly. I love her dearly and I'm soooo proud of her knitting skills.

Still, it was my idea.
