returning to regularly scheduled knitting content

Where was I? Oh, I finished the garterlac baby blanket and freed (that doesn't look right) up my #8 Addis for a Forest Canopy Shawl (in my hand spun, from the big balls). I cast on and knit quite a bit before noticing it was really...hole-y? I didn't like it at all. So I frogged, went down a needle size and started again. I'm knitting away and decide to take a quick progress pic.

Hmmm. Still seems a little too hole-y. I take a closer look.

And then I consult my crafty Sybermom friends. How lacey is too lacey? Does this look too holey to you? The next smaller 24" circs I have is a 4. I don't wanna go out looking for needles!

Before any replies are posted, I remember I never checked my wraps per inch (WPI) to determine the weight of my yarn. The pattern uses sport weight. My WPI is 17...between heavy lace and fingering weight. Oops. I frog again and start over with the 4's (Susan Bates Quicksilver, I don't remember when or why I bought them but, hey, these aren't bad. Very pointy, more suited for lace than my Addis) . Much better.

I've gotten a lot further with this but I'll wait until it's done for more pics. Unblocked lace doesn't look like much. I've also set it aside to start on a pair of...what do you call fingerless gloves with a mitten flap? Anyway, these glove/mits. For Kait. I'm making the cuff, body and flap in black Patton's Classic Merino and the fingers lime green. Not much to show yet since I've only finished one cuff and am working on the second. I lengthened them a bit and went WAY down in needle size (3 for the cuffs, 4 for the rest) to make them more dense for added warmth.

My good friend, Lynn, from a small email list I've belonged to for 7 years, sent me flowers the day after my birthday. She said they weren't for my birthday...she just felt I needed a bright spot in my day.

Thank you so much, Lynn. I really did need a pick me up.

I think the shawl looks lots better. I don't think I could tell from the pics of the yarn before how pretty it really is, it is!
