Fiona is the shetland sheep this fleece came from...
Which probably looked much better on Fiona, since my flash washed it all out. Down below, you'll see it's much deeper/darker than it appears here.
Today was a snow day. Well, not really snow so much as a
REALLY FREAKIN' COLD DAY
REALLY FREAKIN' COLD DAY
(the low was -4 but the windchill low was something like -22).
So. We...well, me, really...decided to wash some fleece.
Even though I didn't get the guild drum carder I had reserved (3 months ago) for this month because the person who reserved it last month selfishly kept it another month.
*sigh*
all (well, not all...I had nearly 4 pounds of Fiona fur) zipped into bags and ready to wash
(note the daylight in that sliver of window at the top of the pic, I started this little project around noon)
whew, it was pretty dirty
after two washes and two rinses (the first with a bit of vinegar)
I tossed the bags into my front loader for a spin
and then spread the clean fleece out on this nifty drying rack
that Peter found for me yesterday
a small fan on the floor directly below helped
one batch dry by the time the next was washed
(repeat, repeat, repeat--until the last of it was on the rack at 7:30 PM)
once dry, Kai decided to model a fleece wig

Wow! Loved this post. Sometime I want to get a fleece and do all the prep work myself and this gives me a bit of an idea of what I would be getting myself into.
Oh golly! If you got the fleece out, did you also get the shrimp out?
How adorable Kai looks. That's one pretty looking fleece. I didn't know the guild leased carders as well as spinning wheels...I may have to join this wonderful guild when I get home - if I ever do that is.
