the kitty loft

Our kitties, Kirby (AKA Bert, short for Kirbert) and Ernie (short for Ernest Hemmingway because he's polydactyl), didn't mind Zoe, the Great Pyr but they don't trust the little dogs, especially Peeto. So they spend days hiding out in a little niche in the laundry/utility room behind the furnace.

I wanted to give them more room out of reach of the dogs so came up with the idea of creating a kitty loft in the space above the washer and dryer. So my son and I suspended a full sheet (trimmed just enough to fit) of 1/2 inch plywood with a long length of nylon rope and some heavy eye screws. We anchored it by screwing one corner into the top of a shelf running along one of the side walls.

I laid a piece of shelving across the top of my clothes rack for a bridge.

They even have the top half of the window for basking in the sun.

So far, I've only caught Kirby (left)

in the loft grabbing a bite to eat.

But Ernie really seems to like it up there.

Cute kitties! Love the loft, and it looks like the kitties enjoy it as well.
